Roosevelt Island

Each spring, I enjoy organizing a meetup event at Roosevelt Island. The weather is nicer and the cherry blossoms are in bloom along the promenade. If you never visited the island before you have two options in terms of public transportation. You can ride the F or M train to the local station or enjoy the scenic view from the tram, departing from E 59th St & 2nd Avenue. Just be mindful there is a wait time involved with the cable car, especially on weekends. When you arrive at Roosevelt Island, you soon realize it’s a lot quieter than the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s also a lot greener and breezy because of its proximity to the East River. While on the island, you can visit the remnants of the Small Pox Hospital and the Four Freedoms State Park. If you are willing to walk about two miles to the other side of the island, you can also see the Lighthouse and an art installation called the ‘Girl Puzzle’. Apparently there is a free, red bus that will take you around Roosevelt Island but I have yet to ride it. If you are hungry, there aren’t many food options but ‘Granny Annie’s Bar & Kitchen’ offers reasonable American cuisine.
